IMPORTANT NOTE: Although this wooden diamond willow hiking stave is 56 inches tall, it's most comfy to hold at the top 4 in. or below 10 in. from the top for PROLONGED use (eg, a hiking trip).

This would work for any height person, even as tall as a 6 ft, IF you mostly hold it at the top 4'', and ONLY IF one intended to use it as a tall cane to aid in walking OR one wanted to hold it as a costume prop.

♦ The big knot where the butterfly is inlaid is too wide to hold for long, but it's not uncomfortable to hold there for short periods, since all bumps are sanded smooth so they're not rough.
♦ There are diamonds in the best hand grip zones, but they don't impede. Instead, the indents make great finger grips and hand guides.
♦ GIRTH: Hand grip girth is best for a LARGE to XXXL ADULT HAND (determined by what size work or winter glove you wear), as it is now. HOWEVER, we can often make it thinner so it fits your hand better by sanding it down a bit, if you need us to, at no charge.
♦ ROPE WRAPPED HAND GRIP is NOT recommended for this stick. HOWEVER, if you'd really like a hand grip, it could only go below the butterfly. Please review the specs and photos and don't hesitate to message us. Also, please see 'Upgrades' section below.

This hiking staff has a few curves, making it extra intriguing, but this stick stands straight ''for the most part'' (ie, comes back to center) and works great as a walking stick. (I use one all the time and can verify that crooked sticks work great and have marvelously charming character.)

♦ SOME DEEP...This stick has a few particularly deep diamonds (although it's difficult to capture the many curves and forms in the photos--but they're there,) so I feel I must mention it. They're beautiful alone, and also perfect for embedding stones or charms into them, if you'd wish.
♦ SPALTED RAILING: Has highly coveted, unique and rare 🦄 semi_railing effect, where the diamonds become one with the wood and twist and turn the wood due to spalding/spalting.

EMBELLISHMENTS

♦ A colorful butterfly 🦋 pendant has been artfully embedded into this already amazing piece for a little extra flair.
♦ Butterfly is 1-7/8" wide and made of some kind of gold colored metal and possibly acrylic, and is full of glittery colors of orange, yellow, blue, red, silver and green.
♦ I dug a groove into the wood where each point of the butterfly would be attached, then glued it in with super strong epoxy glue.
♦ I also drilled a couple holes in the body of the butterfly and nailed it in with brass studs, that are secured with epoxy glue, as well.
♦ Besides being a finger guide, the butterfly pendant also gives the thumb something to fondle, like a worry stone or fidget spinner ;)

♦ As a GENERAL rule, hiking sticks should be about shoulder height...give or take a few inches.
♦ For FLAT terrain, or rolling hills and groomed trails, a walking staff should be about 4-6" above the elbow, or a few inches below the shoulder.
♦ For HILLY terrain, a stick that's shoulder height or even a few inches above the shoulder is often preferred to help when descending.
♦ Preferences vary, sooo.....
♦ If you've never had a walking stick, try practicing on a broom stick (while wearing 👞🥿walking shoes) to see what height stick feels comfortable first AND where your preferred 🖐handgrip location would be.

♦ Strong, braided wrist straps are made of 550 paracord, soft genuine leather suede or braided jute rope.
♦ Suede is a THINNER strap, just 2/8'' - 3/8'' wide, and the 550 Paracord lanyard is THICKER at approx. 3/4''-7/8'' wide.
♦ Strap is made of 8-10 ft of cord, suede or jute and is approx. 13 in. when open, and 6 in. when closed, with extra long tassels you can cut yourself after you adjust to fit.
♦ Some people add charms or beads to the tassels, or just leave them plain.

♦ When positioned above handgrip, the strap gives you something to hold onto to help pull yourself up, or just extra leverage when nordic trekking, helping you conserve energy
♦ Ensures you don't drop your hiking staff if you lose your grip
♦ Allows you to let go of your walking stick without dropping it if you need to use your hand for something else
♦ Hang your hiking pole or walking cane on a coat hook when you get indoors
♦ You could cut or untie the strap (but not too easily) and use it for many camping/survival uses (too many uses to list here). Paracord has 7 inner strands that are very useful, as well.

♦ HOW IT'S BRAIDED
♦ I braid the paracord lanyard myself with a loose sinnet cobra knot made of 4 strands of cord (4 strands in tassel). Ends are slightly burned after cutting to seal them, so inner strands of paracord don't ride up, or so poly doesn't unravel.
♦ Wife braids the soft, strong, brown suede leather with a simple braid of three strands (6 strands in tassel).

♦ Hole drilled, sanded and then coated with clear poly
♦ Lanyard threaded through hole and tied loosely (so you can easily untie and adjust it before you tighten the knots for good).

HAND GRIP

The cord hand grip is made of about 15 ft. of 550 paracord rope that can be removed if needed for emergency survival uses__although it might be a little stiff at first since I coated it with wood hardener. It becomes more pliable shortly after you handle it a bit, though.

🐞 I didn't put that as an option on this walking stick because:
♦ A hand grip would cover so much gorgeousness
♦ This stick is so thick, and adding a hand grip would make it even thicker
♦ It seems one would want to hold and use this stick to get a feel for where they will eventually find their favored hand grip location
♦ If one wants some of the bottom cut off, then their ideal hand grip location will be lowered, as well.
♦ The hand grip CANNOT go on the top 4" since most grips are 5-6", and we need at least an inch of wood above the grip...just in case
♦ So really I just want to make sure you read this listing description so you see:
♦ the grip would be below the top 10 in.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

♦ Bring it inside when you're not using it, and maybe wipe dirt or water off of it with a dry cloth or damp cloth if needed....when you can.
♦ Being left outside for a little while every now and then is no big deal. I've had the same stick I use daily for many years, and I leave it out sometimes--just not too often.
♦ These are made for the outdoors, but the clear poly is not UV tolerant like marine epoxy.
♦ Should not be left in the sun or extreme heat or cold for days and weeks on end. Otherwise, the same thing will happen to your lovely walking stick that happens to wood furniture left outside in all sorts of weather.
♦ Just bring it indoors when not in use, and the 5 coats of poly I've put on will help protect your walking stick and help you keep it nice looking and useful for many years.
