🌿 SPECIES:
Common name: Smooth sumac
Botanical name: Rhus glabra
I'm no expert, as I only have a 2 yr Horticulture Diploma and a 2 yr Greenhouse Tech Diploma, but I assure you, these are not Staghorn sumac as some other peoples' listings claim. Those have hairy seeds. These SMOOTH sumac do not.
🌄 PURE: This is as pure as you can get. No chemicals, no preservatives. 100% organic. There are no major water polluters or smokestacks within hundreds of miles. Even if there were, we're just north of the LAURENTIAN Divide, so rivers run north. The nearest small town is 18 mile drive north, and it has one gas station, one bank, and one store (and is 1.5 hr drive to Canadian border). The next biggest town is 36 miles south, below the Laurentian Divide, and the only industry they have is a paper mill. We're just surrounded by miles and miles of trees and beautiful wilderness in what we like to call God's country.
🛠 PROCESSING:
♦ This ground sumac powder is from sumac seed heads that I wild harvested from the woods near our cabin in northern Minnesota
♦ After seeds were separated from the pods, they were naturally dried indoors. They were only sealed after being sure they were thoroughly dry.
♦ Before grinding them, I meticulously pick seeds off the pods and then remove as many little stems as I can.
♦ Seeds are ground and then run through a big sieve; what gets through is then ground AGAIN, and THEN sifted AGAIN through a smaller sieve.
♦ Then I make myself I nice cool glass of ''sumacade'' (lemon flavored water) from the seeds I tried to grind but that wouldn't fit through the small sieve. 😍
📦 YOU WILL GET: either a sealed bag or small sterilized jar of ground seed powder, depending on what size weight you order.
