Here's something we've been seeing on our main site for a while: whirly pops!

I'm not saying the moms at your parties will be happy with you serving their kids these gigantic sticky, sugary treats, but they do look great on a dessert table, work well as party favors, and are just so darn pretty. (Click on the photos to see what parties they came from.)

My whole philosophy about throwing a great party is that you only need a few unexpected details to make it special. Well, for this party, which is today, I'm living my own advice.

So what are my unexpected details?

Finally, finally. Now that my daughter and I have both recovered from being sick and I've returned from Bloggy Boot Camp, I'm finally able to post photos of my daughter's 4th mermaid birthday.

Here is my daughter with her fairy princess hat. She debated wearing a mermaid costume, but ultimately fell in love with this dress. The face paint was of her own design. Every Friday, the children at my daughter's preschool are able to paint their own faces, hence the face painting you'll see on the other little guests.

I think homemade play dough is a great favor idea. It's cheap to make and you can pick your own colors.

I found this gorgeous and simple tutorial on adelynSTONE and thought it would be perfect to share.  Kristan, the woman behind adelynSTONE, says the secret to her recipe is cream of tarter and not a lot of salt.

I first saw glitter tattoos at the Egyptology 8th Birthday Nicole W threw for her daughter. For party favors, Nicole applied glitter tattoos to her guests. I thought they looked cool, but didn't quite get how they worked.

Then I read Nicole's blog post, where she described the process and explained where to buy everything. So to try it out, I ordered this set from Glimmer Body Art for my daughter for Christmas.
