Party Recap

When we were asked to create a “60s California Surfer” party for a first birthday, we were beyond excited! We based the décor around the iconic southern California lifeguard tower with its cool blue hue and easily recognizable design. We found a replica of a SoCal lifeguard tower in a local shop, and set it on a “runner” of sand fresh off the beach outside our door. A variety of shells were added to complete the effect. Each place was set with adorable surfer plates from Fire and Crème. Classic Ray Ban- style sunglasses and mini beach balls decorated each plate, that sat on a raffia placemat. Surfboards and mini VWs with surf boards secured to their roofs served additional touches of 60s surfer fun .

Other touches included a “Surf Report” sign, and a raffia table skirt that was converted into a “Watch Me Grow” photo wall of baby Mick’s month by month first year. We finished the décor with a “HANG TEN” balloon banner above a giant surfing poster. As the final touch, while the kids and adults had a ball playing in the giant ball pit and bouncy house, we streamed the movie “Endless Summer” on one of our play area walls while cranking Beach Boys tunes. After enjoying cupcakes topped with mini surfers, each child went home with a big bucket of sand toys and beach balls.
