Party Recap

Ever since we met in graduate school, my friend Amana has always been about helping other people. Whether it be through leading by example or words of encouragement, Amanda has always been a faithful friend and just an awesome human being. So of course we were thrilled when we found out she was pregnant!

She expressed interest in a Woodland theme shower so we we tried to bring a lot of the outdoor elements indoors by using lots of wooden platters, greens, rocks, twigs and pine cones. For the greens, we used baby’s breath in mason jars tied with twine. To add texture to the table, we used lemon leaves-which are an inexpensive way to fill out space while adding vibrant colors to a dessert table.

For the cake, we had the bakery make a simple almost naked cake and we put our own woodland toppers we bought online. The mini rustic banner was super easy to make. You just need a little bit of natural burlap fabric which you can cut into into diamonds and then hot glue over twine. Easy DIY decor is the best! We added a few sprigs of rosemary behind the little critters on the cake to add some greens.

For the Trail Mix Bar, we used 8 different ingredients to mix and match: almonds, craisins, cashews, M&M’s, caramel popcorn, pretzels, chocolate chips, and mini marshmallows. The apothecary jar full of little acorns were also super easy to make. You just add Hershey’s kisses to mini vanilla wafers. To get them to stick together you can either use peanut butter or melted chocolate.

What’s a party without a photo back drop? At all our parties, we always try to do some sort of a backdrop to help guests interact and have something fun to do. We made a photo back drop by painting on trees, mushrooms, and grass on craft paper. We left to paint to dry overnight and then cut and put on the wall with tape. To add to the whimsical feel, I had my two kids paint the trees which they loved doing!

The backdrop for the baby name suggestion board was created by sanding, staining, and nailing the wooden boards together. We bought wood from Home Depot and they can cut it for you in any size for free. We strung twine and used mini clothes pins to hold the name suggestion cards.

This baby shower was such a blast and the look on Amanda’s face was so priceless when she first walked in and saw everything!
