Party Recap

Our little girl was born on a cold January day, so to celebrate her first birthday, I planned a Winter ONEderland party with a color palette of soft pink, shimmering gold, warm cream, and winter white. The theme included cozy elements such as cable-knit hearts and sweater vases with pale pink roses, as well as rustic touches like whitewashed crates, wooden snowflakes, snow-dusted pinecones, and pink, gold, and white sparkling pine trees. The party was held in a lodge setting complete with a cozy stone fireplace.

Party Highlights

  • What People Ate

We enjoyed hearty soup, fresh salad, and crusty bread. Choices included Baked Potato Soup and BBQ Turkey Chili with toppings like oyster crackers, cheddar cheese, green onions, sour cream, and crumbled bacon. We served a winter salad composed of romaine lettuce, a maple vinaigrette, dried cranberries, and honey goat cheese. Thick slices of crusty French bread and Italian bread with butter rounded out the meal. Since there were many little ones in attendance, we also served kid-friendly items like applesauce pouches, baby appetizers (puffs and yogurt bites), and graham crackers.

  • What People Drank

Beverages included ice water, fresh-brewed coffee with cream and sugar, and a Hot Chocolate Bar. The kids also had juice boxes.

  • Desserts

Guests sampled vanilla cupcakes with soft pink frosting as well as the Hot Chocolate Bar, while the birthday girl devoured her vanilla smash cake covered in pink buttercream rosettes. The Hot Chocolate Bar consisted of hot mix (and a 1/4 cup scoop), hot water, snowflake-shaped marshmallows, pink peppermint marshmallows, vanilla-flavored snowman marshmallows, Heath Bar pieces, Andes Mint pieces, salted caramel pieces, raspberry syrup, hazelnut syrup, caramel syrup, chocolate topping sauce, raspberry topping sauce, caramel topping sauce, and whipped cream. We sipped our creations from cups decorated with custom designed labels.

  • Party Favors

Strawberries and Cream White Chocolate Lindor Truffles inside organza bags with custom designed "Thank You Snow Much" tags were offered to guests to thank them for attending.

  • Activities / Games

A photo booth was set up with a black background and pink and gold first birthday props on sticks in such shapes as hats, bows, mustaches, and glasses. The children enjoyed playing in the ball pit and coloring snowflake coloring pages with crayons. Of course, they also loved playing with the gift wrap, bows, and tissue paper after the gifts were opened! I created a winter-themed background music playlist for the party, which included: "Let It Snow" (Ella Fitzgerald); "Winter Wonderland" (Louis Armstrong); "Baby, It’s Cold Outside" (Johnny Mercer and Margaret Whiting); "I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" (Billie Holiday); "A Winter Romance" (Dean Martin); "Little Jack Frost, Get Lost" (Marjorie Hughes); "Winter Wonderland" (Ella Fitzgerald); "Let It Snow" (Dean Martin); "Sleigh Ride" (Johnny Mathis); "Snow" (Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Peggy Lee, and Trudy Stevens); "I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" (Dean Martin); "Baby, It’s Cold Outside" (Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Nordan); "Suzy Snowflake" (Rosemary Clooney); "Winter Wonderland" (Dean Martin); "Winter Weather" (Art Lund, Benny Goodman, and Peggy Lee); "Frosty the Snowman" (Bing Crosby); and "Baby, It’s Cold Outside" (Dean Martin).
