Melanin Poppin' Party

This year's theme was a representation of my daughter. Her 13th birthday was about being empowered, confident, unique, and comfortable in her beautiful black/brown skin. My big girl was able to celebrate her Melanin Poppin' with her little sis and friends with different racial backgrounds.

INVITATIONS: I designed the invitations on Zazzle with a mocha brown, gold, agate, and tan background.

ATTIRE: For professional photos, my daughter wore a black sleeveless romper dress. The top bodice had floral lace and there were rhinestones trimmed around the waist area. Her stilettos were black 4.3 inches. ankle strap, and open toe. The heels were adorned on the back with a rhinestone medallion.
At her party, she wore a white t-shirt that read Melanin Poppin' with a picture of an African American female with a crown worn in her afro. She was blowing pink bubble gum. The black jean mini skirt she wore was flared and pleated. She also wore white knee high socks striped in pink at the top with black hi-top Vans.
Her sister wore the same Melanin Poppin' shirt, except her t-shirt was powder blue. She wore black leggings with matching powder blue and black Jordans.
I wore the same exact t-shirt in heather gray with black leggings. My Nike shoes were gray with Nike colored in pink. Her dad wore a dark heather gray t-shirt with KING printed above a black male image with positive words throughout the male image face.

DECORATIONS: There were two balloon columns decorated by the entrance in the colors of dusty pink, metallic pink, black, and light brown. The matching banner was placed in the center of the balloon columns. It read Happy 13th Birthday Official Teenager. Next to the balloon décor were black balloon boxes blocks. I added black letters that spelled out TEEN on the front of the boxes. I also added balloons inside each box.
The cake table was covered with a rose gold sequin tablecloth. The red velvet cake that was designed in pink, black, and rose gold marble fondant was centered on the table with a gold crown on top of the cake. The LED marquee light up number 13 was placed on the left side of the cake with Melanin Poppin’ popcorn bags. On the right side, there were Melanin Poppin’ sugar cookies and pink and gold cake pops.
The guests’ table was decorated with a white tablecloth that had rose gold décor on the bottom. A black sequin table runner was in the center adorned with rose gold tealight candles. A black vase filled with dusty pink, cream, and light brown dried pampas grass was in the center of the table. The black and rose gold brunch menu was placed against the vase. There were black and rose gold gems scattered throughout the table. Rose gold placemats were set in front of each guest with a charcuterie box filled with the following items: Biscoff cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, flat pretzels, pepperoni, red grapes, Ritz crackers, and cubed cheese. A disposable wooden fork was placed in each charcuterie box. Next to the charcuterie boxes were fruit yogurt parfaits.
The brunch table was covered with black satin tablecloths and a rose gold sequin table runner. Rose gold flutes were put on the back of the table next to the orange juice and Sprite for virgin Mimosas. A vegetable tray was centered on the table. There were two types of chocolate chip muffins located on each side of the vegetable tray.
For dinner, the table setup was the same with the following: buttermilk fried chicken, baked macaroni and cheese, southern green beans, Caesar salad, and assorted fruit. The guests had clear black plastic plates trimmed in rose gold. Black satin napkins were centered on the plates adorned with rose gold flower napkin rings. They had rose gold plastic utensils and rose gold flutes with Welch’s Sparkling Rosé juice. A rose gold tealight candle was set in front of the plates.
The party favor table was covered with a black satin tablecloth. The table was adorned with rose gold gems, thank you cards, and guests’ party favors.
The photo backdrop was set up on the back wall. A rose gold metallic curtain was between two black sequin curtains. The balloon garland that was attached to the curtains were made up of dusty pink, rose gold, brown, and black balloons.

FOOD: For brunch, the guests were provided charcuterie boxes with the following contents: 3 Biscoff cookies, 6 Ritz crackers, 12 pepperonis in shape of flowers, 7 red grapes, 8 cube cheese, 8 flat pretzels, and 2 chocolate covered strawberries decorated in pink shimmer and drizzle with a wooden disposable fork included. They also had a fruit yogurt parfait; chocolate chip muffins; and a vegetable tray.
For dinner, the guests ate buttermilk fried chicken, baked macaroni and cheese, southern green beans, Caesar salad, and assorted fruit.

DRINKS: Pink lemonade; Virgin mimosas; Water; and Sparkling Rose juice

ACTIVITIES: Limo ride and shopping at the mall
