Party Recap

Last weekend we had a baby shower for my good friend Wendy. She chose a safari theme and we instantly thought of a pretty gold and white combination. As much as we love all gold and white parties, we also wanted to add in a touch of baby blue in the party. I made a big, oversized poster for the background with one of our favorite sayings for a little one.

We purchased a few inexpensive animals to sit on the table, including this paper mache rhino, and spray painted them gold. I went to Party City to get blue and white popcorn boxes but they no longer have the striped boxes, just solid colors. Sometimes these unexpected things turn out to be a blessing in disguise as I really loved how our popcorn boxes turned out. I bought the solid white boxes and we cut out safari animals from adhesive foil and attached them to the front.

We also cut out giraffes from gold vinyl for our milk bottles and added tan straws (they said gold on the package, but looked more tan than gold). We went for simple gold giraffe, elephant, and rhino silhouettes on white frosted fancy frame for our cookies made by the talented Sugared Owl Custom Cookie Co. Love the simple yet elegant look.

For this party, we made 2 different cupcake toppers and stacked our cake stands for a tiered look. We made our printable safari toppers for the bottom tier, and our gold glitter safari animal toppers for the top.

We had this party at the pool house in Wendy’s community. In Florida, many subdivisions have a community pool + pool house you can use/rent out. Pools are a must here after all :) Near the entrance, we set up a table with a book we bought for all the guests to sign the front or back cover for a keepsake for Wendy and her family to keep.

We got a cake with light blue frosting and made a gold glitter “oh boy” topper to add to the baby boy theme. Tiny little gold glitter animals were attached to the top of the cake pop sticks. That’s one thing Beth’s always made for our parties – cake pops – we love them. They’re my favorite! Matching printable food labels pulled the table together.

We made a Baby Boy banner in all neutral colors with elephants to hang by the kitchen area where we had healthier snacks and food. I brought my gold chargers too keep the gold going throughout the room.

One of our favorite details of the party were our party favors. We purchased small mason jars at Target + a pack of cheap, small plastic animals from Joanns. We took the lids off the jars, super glued the animals to the top of the lids and spray painted the whole thing gold. We added our printable Safari Favor Tags with bakers twine for the finishing touch. Chocolate is always a good idea! – We put two different kinds of chocolate inside the jars.

We had several games for the party. We did a Guess How Big Mommy’s Belly is game where each guest cut the length of string they thought that would just fit around Wendy’s tummy. The guest with the closest measurement won the prize. Ours wound up being very close with 2 guests being less than half an inch different.

Our next game was the “Baby Boy Love” game. We made matching safari cards for guests to write down song titles with baby, boy, or love in them. The guests with the most songs won a prize. Songs were playing in the background during the whole party with these 3 words in the title. It was an easy way to come up with a playlist. We’re giving away our “Baby, Boy, Love” Game for free on JoleeStudio.com

Wendy and her family also had some ideas for games. Her mom and sister flew in from Delaware to help out, which was an awesome surprise for Wendy. My favorites were the Clothes Pin Game and Who Can Drink the Bottle the Fastest. Wendy and her husband had to hold a baby, a cell phone, and race to see who could pin clothes on the clothes line the fastest. I’m sure you didn’t need to see the picture to know who won. Moms know how to multitask. :) It was so cute + fun to watch. By the end Wendy even wound up with both babies.

Next the 2 guys “volunteered” to play drink the bottle game. Whoever could drink it the fastest won and it was pretty funny to watch too. One of the bottles started leaking some and Wendy’s husband got a little wet.

It was a very fun + successful party. I’m so happy for my sweet friend Wendy and her growing family. I can’t wait to meet her new little guy soon!
