Party Recap

We are big fans of Stitch (not Lilo, just Stitch) in this house so when Vivian chose a Stitch theme for her 9th birthday, I was happy to oblige. I created the Stitch Hawaii Luau party of her dreams!

I have been obsessed with the idea of low seating for quite some time but when I priced out low table rentals they were so much money -- like $125 a table before delivery charge! I would rather spend those funds on other party decor, so I just took a folding table, left the legs folded and sat it on top of 3 filled storage totes. Once it was covered with linens, foliage, and other decor, and surrounded by pillows, you could never tell what was hidden underneath!

Luckily, Joann's has a multitude of Stitch fabrics. I bought all of the ones that featured just Stitch. I got one that was woven and stretchy which I turned into a backdrop panel cover, and the rest were patterned cotton that I turned into table runners, tablecloths, pillow covers and drawstring backpacks (which were one of the party favors). I bought tropical foliage and some local flowers to add a lush, Hawaiian vibe to the setting. I have an ivory boho umbrella I sewed fringe to and used indoors over the sitting area. I dangled some balloons and streamers to hide the pole of the umbrella. Balloons also decorated the backdrops as well as some hanging capiz shell garlands and fringe. I drew and painstakingly cut out Stitch characters and leaves to add to the favor walls and backdrops. We collected up every Stitch thing we owned (including a bank and some stuffies) and added them to the decor.

For activities, I created a giant coloring table cover and provided art supplies for kids to use on it. We designed our own paper + straw leis, made our own gourmet ice cream sandwiches, and did a fun re-lei race. The re-lei race idea I found here: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2907731076143630
It was so much fun!

For food we tried to give a nod to Hawaii with ham + Hawaiian roll sandwiches, pork + pineapple skewers, pigs in a blanket and some fruit. I also made a blue wave punch by mixing the blue Hawaiian Punch and 7Up and adding some Swedish Fish and gummy sharks into the mix for fun. Goldfish crackers, chips and fun candy were also served. Instead of a traditional cake, we did a giant chocolate chip cookie cake which was a big hit!

For favors, guests got the Stitch drawstring backpack, a set of tropical floral pattern scrunchies, Stitch stickers, leis, and a Stitch-themed Decorated Sugar Cookie.

This was a such a fun party and the decor was a feast for the eyes! My daughter and her friends had the best time!
