Under the Sea Lagoon at Mermaids Cove Bay

My daughter had a mermaid party for her 8th birthday. Her theme was Under the Sea Lagoon at Mermaids Cove Bay.

INVITATIONS: The invitations were mad by me. I wanted the "message in a bottle" look so I ordered plastic bottles with corks from eBay. I decorated each bottle with purple sheer ribbon, pink gems, and multicolored sea shells. I inserted sea green colored sand in each bottle, along with 3 pink gems and 1 sea shell. I purchased African American mermaid clipart from Etsy and used them to design the invitations. I added bubbles and Ursula the sea witch clipart near the contact information. After I typed out everything in mermaid font, I printed and burned the edges and sides to give it that aged antique appearance. Lastly, I rolled the invitations and tied them with burlap rope.

ATTIRE: My daughter's first outfit for professional pictures was a mermaid halter top and mermaid tail that consisted of multiple colors of blue with gold scales. Her hair was braided to the side in a fish tail braid with a gold mermaid head piece chain that had a seashell in the center. She wore small gold hoop earrings and a matching chunky bracelet. She also wore Ursula's gold snail shell necklace.
Her second outfit was a purple shell tube top with a green scale print in the center. The bottom was a green scale mermaid skirt with tulle at the hem. Her hair was still worn in the fish tail braid adorned with a green scale mermaid hair bow. The hair bow had a small dinglehopper (fork) in the center. She wore sparkly purple earrings and a purple and green chunky bracelet. At the party, she wore a 2 piece swimming suit. The top was a purple shell halter top and the bottoms were green mermaid scales print.

Her little sister dressed as Uma, the pirate, during the photoshoot. Her outfit was a turquoise embellished in gold highlights with purple net long sleeves. The jacket was also turquoise with gold tone design on the cuffs and sleeves. She had fingerless gloves, a fringed detachable belt, a pirate's hat, and black boots. Her earrings were purple sparkly hoops. I put two faux braids in her hair to mimic the Uma character. At the party, she wore a gold one piece mermaid scale swimsuit with a blue bow that tied around the neck.

I wore a black short sleeve shirt with purple ripped skinny jeans and black tennis shoes. I wore Ursula's gold snail shell necklace and had a black sea siren mermaid trident to portray Ursula’s disguise, Vanessa. Daddy did not partake in this themed party.

DECORATIONS: Outside I had a mermaid themed banner that read Ka'Miyah's Mermaid Cove Bay on the fence for the mermaids to take photos. Upon entering, the office door was decorated as a photo backdrop with lantern jellyfish and crepe paper.
I decorated the fireplace and tables with balloons and mermaid themed table covers and crepe paper. The cake table was covered with a pink table cloth, adorned with a white net, Happy Birthday metallic birthday banner, a mermaid picture in a frame that read Forever a Mermaid, a gold candelabra with gold dinglehoppers, a ship wheel, a decorative mermaid letter "K", a mermaid statue decor, flowers with beads and rocks in a decorative glass jar, and a plush dolphin. Above the cake table were four tissue paper flowers with bubbles on the side.
I decorated a section of the hallway with Ursula's Fish & Chips. I used a black tissue paper flower with purple and black crepe hanging in the center of the wall. Under that was the sign Ursula's Fish & Chips with a black net and an Ursula prop in the center of the net. Below her was a black staff and a pirate's black and gold chest decorated with gold beads and gold coins.

FOOD: Crab-ssants; Sea Shell Macaroni & Cheese; Pirate Golden Chicken Nuggets; and pH Pepperoni and Sausage Pizza.

ACTIVITIES/GAMES: FIN-tastic Water Fun on the Inflatable Water Slide; Mermaid Tail Race. Prize was a Mermaid Tumbler that read Need Vitamin SEA.
Pass the Treasure Chest (didn't have time to play). Prizes were Pirate binoculars, Pirate sword, Pirate bandana, and a green tutu. Pin the Tail on the Mermaid (didn't have time to play). The prize was a Mermaid Tail Sequin Blanket.

THANK YOU CARDS: I purchased shell thank you cards from Etsy. They were made with purple glitter and aqua card-stock. I asked seller to use one of my clip-arts to put on front of each card. The wording on the bubble tag read SEA you next year. A ribbon was added to each card for an elegant look. The inside of the cards had purple and a small amount of aqua writing with my personalized wording and different under the sea clipart.
