SENSE-sational Celebration

My oldest daughter opted not to have a birthday party this year. This decision made me sad, but it prompted me to seek an amazing way to celebrate her. It all worked out since my youngest had cheer competitions in Florida just a week prior. I wanted to celebrate my oldest in a special way, so I decided to implement a unique theme focused on the FIV5 SENSES. I gifted her with 15 presents, each tied to a sense that would reflect the SENSE-sational birthday theme.

BIRTHDAY CARD: I customized her birthday card with a message that engaged all five senses. The card read the following: On this day, May 18, 2025, you will WITNESS the joy of your Sensory Birthday Celebration! You will FEEL the love that surrounds you. You will sway to the melody of us SINGING Happy Birthday in your honor! You will INHALE the aroma of burning candles and delightful confections. Lastly, you will SAVOR the sweetness of birthday cake and ice-cream. Happy Birthday to a beautiful and SENSE-sational 15-year-old!

ATTIRE: For the professional photoshoot, the birthday teen wore a two-piece floral print crop blouse with oversized denim jeans. The jeans had unique floral designs on the pockets that matched the crop blouse. She wore sneakers with a blend of sage green, mauve pink, and gold accents. Pink floral earrings trimmed in gold were worn with a faux gold flower nose ring.
On the day of the celebration, the birthday girl wore a sage green t-shirt paired with black leggings and sage green shoes accented with mauve pink and gold. The front of her shirt featured the phrase: "Use your Spiritual Senses to live out your Faith," accompanied by a heart intertwined with a cross. The back of the shirt highlighted five Bible verses, each representing a spiritual sense: Sight – 2 Corinthians 5:7;
Sound-Revelation 14:2; Touch- Luke 6:19; Smell-2 Corinthians 2:16; and Taste-Psalm 34:8.
I wore a pink t-shirt adorned with four images of African American women, each in a different pose representing the phrases beneath them: "See no evil," "Hear no evil," "Speak no evil," and "Do no evil." I paired my shirt with black leggings and pink and white Pumas for a coordinated look.
The birthday girl’s sister wore a blue t-shirt with the phrase: "Be wise and use your Common Sense!" She completed her outfit with black leggings and blue hi-top Converse.

DECORATIONS: The backdrop featured shimmering satin curtains in a light gold hue, trimmed with beaded fringes cascading down. Pink balloons were evenly placed in a row just above the drapes. The cake table was covered with a light pink tablecloth. The focal point was a green and pink fondant cake, designed to resemble a partially opened gift box. A pink bow adorned the top, with pink tissue paper seemingly peeking out from inside. A rose gold cake topper read “Happy Birthday” while her name and age were beautifully displayed in matching rose gold lettering on the front of the cake. Flanking the centerpiece was a gold foil number “1” balloon and a gold foil number “5” balloon stood on either side, each anchored with a weight. Each place setting was styled with a black satin napkin, used as a placemat. On top, rested a gold plate with a folded pink napkin. A clear cup trimmed in gold held a golden napkin, while a pink fork and gold spoon were placed neatly beside the setting.
The gift table was covered with a gold tablecloth and decorated with pink gift bags. Each bag was labeled for one of the five senses and filled with pink and gold tissue paper. Pink balloons were arranged beneath the table, adding a playful touch.

THANK YOU CARDS: I created thank you cards on Zazzle to show my appreciation to those who gave her gifts. The personal message that I wrote included sensory details to give a vivid picture of her birthday theme. The message on the front of the card read: It only makes SENSE to Thank You for your thoughtful gift. The picture I included was the same picture from her birthday card. Inside the card read: Thank you very much for the special gift. It means a lot to me and I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness. I can SEE and FEEL a warm SENSE of love and care. Your TOUCH of kindness has made my day. It is wonderful to have someone like you in my life.
