Party Recap

For my son's 11th birthday, he wanted to have a sleepover with a group of his favorite buds. But, he wanted it to be a basketball party since we it was in the middle of tournament season. My boy has definite ideas about what his parties should be, which is nice because it makes it much easier for me to plan something when I know what he wants. He came up with the idea for a basketball theme and gave input throughout the whole design period.

Based on what he told me, I started by designing a simple invitation, with a throwback basketball vibe to it. The color palette started with blue and white for his favorite basketball team, the University of Kentucky. Then we mixed in some orange for the color of the basketballs.

In addition to sugar cookies, we served chocolate cake and vanilla cupcakes. Sam had requested a chocolate cake with white icing. But, he didn’t want a simple chocolate cake, he wanted a fancy one like I had make for a friend. After I frosted the cake, he helped me add gumballs to the bottom of cake to bring in the blue and orange color palette. We also topped the cake with blue cotton candy and blue, white, and silver sprinkles.
