Come one, come all to the greatest first birthday on earth! This circus-themed first birthday with a ton of handmade details, including several carnival games, complete with prizes, was so much fun to put together. Fresch & Fancy custom designed and crafted a majority of the decor, including DIY ornament gumball machines, a colorful dessert table backdrop made of tissue garland, circus podium centerpieces, and cotton candy favors adorned with circus animals. Face painting, balloon twisting, and a show by former Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus performers completed the day.
What People Ate
Circus fare, of course. Peanuts, popcorn, fresh-grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, and Twinkie corndogs with "ketchup" made of red icing.
What People Drank
Punch and water served up in raffle-ticket adorned mason jars.
Handmade popcorn and snow cone cupcakes, circus-inspired sugar cookies served up in a cookie tray wrapped in raffle tickets, elephant and clown cake pops, and two big top-inspired cakes, one for the birthday boy and one for everyone else.
We spray painted the lids of several plastic jars and topped them with tiny plastic circus animals, which we also spray painted gold. We then filled the jars with different flavors of cotton candy and adorned them with customized favor tags thanking guests for making Roman's first birthday "Over the Top."
Activities / Games
One thing we wanted to make sure of was that our circus entertainment in now way resembled the much-dreaded "creepy clown." Lucky for us, we found the Ramazini’s - a couple who actually toured several years with the Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus. They performed acrobatics and an interactive show, including juggling and magic tricks. The kids were sold. We also had a face painter and balloon twister, along with a slew of handmade carnival games, including crowd favorites like ring toss. Lucky winners even got to take home a prize of their choosing.
