Popcorn and Pajamas Movie Night
ByParty Recap
When I first began planning my daughter Kate's 4th birthday, I knew she would love having all of her friends over in their jammies for a pajama party! Since we had done a brunch a couple years prior for her second birthday, I wanted to do something that wasn't centered around a breakfast theme. So that is how the popcorn and pajamas movie night theme was born! It was such a great theme for little ones who aren't quite old enough for sleepovers since it combines all of the fun slumber party elements into one fun evening. I incorporated as many "bedtime" elements as I could, starting with a purple watercolor and silver moon/stars motif that was carried through on the invitations and all the paper goods. Instead of traditional gifts, we asked that Kate's friends bring her their favorite bedtime stories to add to her collection. We created one huge pillow quilt for all of the kids to lounge on (which was home to an epic pillow-fight before the movie began!), and handed out party favors of teddy bears that our little guests could cuddle with during the show, and flashlights for lighting their way as they went home for the night. To create a movie theater feel, I dyed discount fabric a soft purple and draped it around our tv to resemble a movie theater curtain, then added plenty of twinkling lights to create a glowing nighttime ambiance. For food, we created a concession-style display with kraft boxes that held a hot dog and sparkling purple punch. The kids could fill their boxes with sweet or salty popcorn, and just about every mix-in imaginable! We watched Daniel Tiger's "Special at Night" episode, which tied in perfectly with our party theme and was the perfect length for little attention spans. It was such a fun night and the perfect way to celebrate our big four year old!
