Oh What Fun! Vintage Christmas Movie Night Party

Every December we have a cousin Christmas PJ party and this year I thought it would be fun to create a movie theater experience, complete with a ticket booth and concession stand. The kids used play money and really enjoyed being able to purchase their own tickets and snacks.

The overall vibe of the night was vintage Christmas with lots of rustic antiques, muted colors and nostalgic activities.

The ticket booth was decorated with a mint green Making Christmas Magic banner from Hunny prints, a candy cane whimsical tassel garland from Rusty Chic Décor and a mylar Santa balloon from Oh How Charming. The tickets from Thread Mama were displayed on a reclaimed barn wood tray with little wooden houses that reminds you of a Christmas village. I love to add details so I taped a Christmas cupcake topper to a candy cane and tied them onto the movie tickets with holiday twine.

The concession stand was a little kids dream! I repurposed a child’s book shelf so the snacks were displayed at the kid’s level. I carried the same detail from the movie tickets and taped a Christmas cupcake topper with a merry movie night printable from Thread Mama onto the movie candy. The popcorn pails and and cheez-its were perfect for the salty snack lover! I found antique colorful Christmas lights and draped them over the wooden racer sled and bookshelf. For the backdrop I used a DIY balloon garland kit, mylar Rudolph balloon from Oh How Charming and hung a Oh What Fun wood bead tassel banner from Rusty Chic Décor.

For dinner guests made a snowman pizza and got to choose their own toppings. While the pizza was baking the kids wrote letters to Santa and loved putting them into the metal letters to Santa mailbox! The dining room was dressed with a greenery swag garland I made using dried eucalyptus, fresh evergreen sprigs, ruscus and dried ferns. On the corner of the swag I tied rust and light pink velvet ribbon. Under the swag were vintage style printable artwork from Thread Mama.

The chandelier above the table was a wood bead tassel garland from Rusty Chic Decor with vintage colors including burnt orange, red, muted pink and sage green. Each chair back had a painted wood Santa face, which was the cutest colorful detail! For the centerpiece I used two cotton trees kitchen towels from Target as a table runner and arranged colorful bottle brush trees. Each place setting had a jute placemat adding a rustic detail, oh what fun napkin, sage green plate, chic light pink cutlery from Ellie and Piper, and a reindeer cup. The reindeer cups had the cutest joy and merry acrylic stir sticks from Cocoa and Confetti. Each guest had a Christmas cookie cutter on their plate that they could take home as a party favor!

There is nothing better than enjoying the magic of Christmas through a child’s eyes. The children cozied up in their Christmas PJs, ate their snacks and watched Christmas movies next to the twinkle lights.
