My Big Fat Greek Wedding theme Birthday Party

I designed a "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" theme surprise Birthday party for my Mother-in-Law after learning that it was one of her favorite movies. It was an added bonus that I got to re-watch the movie when trying to come up with ideas for the party. The movie is so light hearted and fun and that's exactly what I wanted this party to convey. The added element of this being a surprise party only made it that much more exciting to plan.

I designed custom invitations that looked like the logo of the cover of the original movie and included the details of the surprise party.

Some of my favorite elements that we included for the party was our photo booth. I used a photography backdrop stand, sheer curtains, and a gold sequin linen. I picked some of the most popular quotes from the movie like "Hey Ian, we're gonna kill ya! Opa!" and "Kimono, kimono, kimono" and made large quotes out of poster board for guests to use as props. Another favorite prop from our photo booth was the plastic earpiece and travel book to represent when Toula had been a Travel Agent.

If you've ever had the chance to watch the movie (who hasn't!) then you know we HAD to have Windex (I added this to a fun sign on the table) and a Bundt cake. For the tabletop decorations I chose to go with white or gold sequin linen with blue Greek key runners. I wanted to keep the table bright so I had a mix of glittery gold charger plates with white plates and blue linen napkins. I also added in some small floral arrangements, taper candles, and a statue of a Greek goddess.

One of my Mother-in-Laws favorite things about the party was the three tier Birthday cake that included fondant laurel leaf's and Greek columns.

We had a wonderful time celebrating her Birthday and we can't wait to go to My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 this weekend!
