Party Recap

My daughter Maddie loves Bluey and to any parent who has watched the show, it is filled with fun activities, humor and games so it was the perfect theme for a 6th birthday party. We borrowed game ideas straight from the show like "Pass the Parcel" and "Keepy Uppy" and also included some Bluey favorites like Pavlova as part of our menu.

Typically when people do a Bluey theme-- they go all blue and orange like the colors of Bluey and her sister Bingo who are supposed to be Blue and Red Heeler dog breeds (aka Australian Cattle Dogs). I wanted to include more colors that the typical ones so I pulled some colors from their house into the mix and designed some cutouts and signs to drive the Bluey theme home--including some shades of lavender and brown.
One of my favorite decor pieces ended up being a drawing I did of the Heeler's home-which I turned into a mounted sign and attached small balloons and paper flowers to it. It was the perfect backdrop for the sweets table.
The birthday girl requested a chocolate Bluey-shaped cake and Flour & Flowers by MK delivered just that! MK also made mini pavlovas since they are a favorite dessert on the show. Other desserts included brownies, sugar cookie bars, chocolate chip cookies and candy.
Since Bluey is a dog, serving hot dogs as the main course seemed fitting. Goldfish crackers & potato chips served as the "fish and chips" commonly mentioned in the show, and Muffin's muffins were included as another themed food. Other chips and dips rounded out the food assortment. Drinks included fruit-infused waters, pink lemonade and sweet tea.
Games included playing the previously mentioned show-favorites of "Keepy Uppy" (volleying a balloon for as long as possible) and "Pass the Parcel" (passing a gift around and removing layers of wrapping paper turn by turn to eventually reveal the main gift inside). Additionally, we built an obstacle course like they do on the show and I made a "Bob Bilby" piñata which was filled with candy. Guests also decorated a favor bag and filled it with goodies including "sticky geckos" and colored Bluey coloring pages. We also taught everyone how to play the dice game "Tenzi" which was a big hit.
For decor, a welcome sign and tons of balloons greeted guests as they entered the party. A photo-taking backdrop featuring Bluey and Bingo cut-outs was a focal point along with a huge balloon-framed doorway into the space with the kids tables and chairs. What guests did not know was the impressive balloon-framed doorway was actually covering an unfinished DIY home renovation project that was not done in time for the party! Balloons to the rescue!
Bluey-fabric runners decked the kids tables along with beautiful floral centerpieces. The flowers used included some Australian choices of Xanadu foliage and Kangaroo Paw since Bluey is Australian.
This Bluey-filled fête was a total delight and the birthday girl had the best day ever!
