Party Recap

Landon's Construction Birthday Party was the perfect party for a excavator lovin', diggin' boys 3rd birthday. The clean and modern party feel, with monochrome blacks and whites was accentuated with pops of yellow and construction vehicles galore.

The kids got right to work after grabbing their hardhats and digging in the custom built sandbox, building towers with leftover lumber and flagging tractors down with caution tape streamer banners while the parents enjoyed the margarita "refueling station" and 6 foot display of chips and salsa.

Everyone enjoyed the modern construction dessert table, with a mix of homemade, store bought and locally sourced treats displayed on toolboxes and construction supplies.

Party Highlights

  • What People Ate

The food was one of the highlights of this party for me! You can't beat a good meal at a birthday party. Guest snacked on a 6 foot long chips and salsa display with fresh, homemade salsas from my brother, the owner of The Vet Chef food truck which I decorated to fit the construction theme with construction vehicles throughout the table. Then, for dinner we served street tacos and quesadillas, which he also prepared.

  • What People Drank

Our refueling station featured a make-your-own margarita bar, which was perfect for the construction theme. I served a limeade, but left the tequila on the side so guests could add their desired amount of alcohol if they chose, and kids could enjoy the limeade. This worked perfectly and saved me from making separate drinks for the kids and adults. They were served in handled mason jars from the dollar store, and dressed up with black, gold and yellow paper straws.

  • Desserts

Preparing desserts is one of my favorite part of parties. With our busy summer schedule this year, I knew I wouldn't be able to bake as much as normal, so I opted to create the centerpiece yellow ombre cake, and sourced the rest of the desserts from a local baker and the grocery store. The sugar cookies were designed by local baker Amy Nichole Milne and matched the invitation perfectly, and the store bought donuts and cupcakes were dressed up with DIY cricut cupcake toppers. Lastly, I chose store bought lemon bars to keep the yellow theme of the dessert table. The modern construction table was complete with a homemade balloon garland, and custom vinyl banner which I designed to match.

  • Party Favors

The hard hat party favors were very simple for this party, and doubled as a decoration. The little workers enjoyed putting them on as they played in the construction sandbox.

  • Activities / Games

The focal point of this party was the raised sandbox that my husband and I constructed, with the "help" of our kiddos for this party. We filled it with various construction vehicles and let the little construction workers go to town. We also set out piles of leftover lumber from various projects and let the kids create whatever their imaginations could think of. The last activity was the caution tape streamer banners that the kids ran up and down the yard like kites! All the activities were open ended and used imagination, and didn't require parent involvement! I always opt to let the kids be kids at parties and rarely have organized games or activities.
