Jordan's Secretariat Derby Party

My daughter was turning 11 and loves horses! She loves the movie Secretariat so we decided on a Secretariat/Derby Party.

• What People Ate

  We kept it very simple and just had fruit and snacks.

• What People Drank

  I served pink lemonade in fancy champagne glasses with a strawberry on the rim.

• Best Moment

  Listening to the girls watching the movie and cheering for secretariat during the race scenes.

• Desserts

  Cupcakes with fresh whipped strawberry icing

• Party Favors

  Each girl made a derby hat and a yarn horseshoe. We gave packs of Big Red gum wrapped up to look like the newspaper from the day after secretariat won the triple crown. Secretariats nickname was Big Red

• Activities / Games

  The girls made their own derby hats and we did a horeshoe craft. The used colored yarn and twine and wrapped horseshoes that they then decorated with buttons or flowers. We also borrowed my nephews projector and showed the movie Secretariat on the wall upstairs.

• Budget

  Very budget friendly. I think total I spent about $150 on everything
