Party Recap

My dad is a Purple Heart Korean Army vet and was turning 90. I wanted to not only celebrate his 90th birthday, but also honor his service in the military by having an Army theme birthday bash.
The celebration took place at his American Legion, which helped set the tone for the military theme.
I chose Army green and chocolate brown with camouflage accents for my color theme.
I started with Army green floor length table covers. For a contrast, I used chocolate brown chair covers. On each chair, I added the Army green sashes. Each sash was gathered and tied in the center and a camouflage Army star was pinned over the gathering.
Each table centerpiece started with a camouflage bandana.
For one centerpiece, I used real ammo boxes, helmets, canteens, grenades and faux bullets. Along with these items, I added a picture of my dad when he was in the army in a dark stain and galvanized frame.
Another centerpiece, I purchased large wood star bases that had the American Flag printed on top. On top of this, I added a wooden saluting soldier that I had specially made. I printed out the Army Logo and put that on a small stand. I found the faux Purple Heart medals online and had special dog tags printed with "Happy Birthday Jerry", to complete the centerpiece.
For each place setting, I started with chocolate brown dinner plates and placed smaller camouflage dessert plates on top.
I made utensil holders starting with brown cardstock. I printed an Army star and added a camouflage band. I tucked in a camouflage napkin and brown colored utensils to tie into the Army green/chocolate brown/camo theme.
The dessert table was completely designed around the Korean War.
I found a poster honoring those who served in the Korean War and used that as the center of my backdrop. My dad used to drive the officers around in a jeep, so I used an Army Jeep as my centerpiece on the table. Camouflage netting was used for accents, along with galvanize and wood stands and platters.
Around the room I used various military props. I personally hand painted the wood army soldier to represent my dad and used him along with props as one of my main focal points. This was a fun party to plan and decorate and to honor my dad.
