Party Recap

He said it was going to be small. Just a few friends, he said. Then he decided he wanted a soccer party and that plan went out the window. Soccer season had just started, and most of his class plays, so we took advantage of the nearby park and sent the kids to play, while parents hung out at the house. Why are kids parties so much more relaxing when the kid aren’t actually there?
DÉCOR:
I went pretty traditional with a black, white and green color scheme, but mixed it up with chevron rather than stripes for a more modern vibe. Soccer ball lanterns hid clear vases and became the floral centerpieces for cocktail tables, while personalized soccer jersey and soccer themed cut-outs adorned the longer dining tables. I also used astroturf as the base for them.
The dessert table was covered with astroturf and b/w chevron fabric. I used PVC pipe to construct soccer goals to use as the focal point for the cake and buffet.

Party Highlights

  • What People Ate

85 people is a lot to feed, so we took the stress out of it by hiring a taco cart company. We filled in with salad and fruit. Agua Fresca, Sangria, wine, beer and water kept guests hydrated.

  • What People Drank

Agua Fresca, Sangria, wine, beer and water kept guests hydrated.

  • Desserts

For dessert, we served a multi-flavored cake, cupcakes, chocolate covered Oreos and soccer ball cake pops.

  • Party Favors

We gave the kids something we thought they’d use while playing their own soccer games—water bottles and headbands. SCORE!

  • Activities / Games

A soccer company ran games and soccer drills & skills with the kid at a nearby park. Kids who didn’t want to play or got tired could jump in the bounce house or play giant games like Jenga or Connect 4.
