Gather as One: A Magnolia Market - Inspired First Birthday Party
ByParty Recap
“My husband and I are avid HGTV watchers. Countless nights have been spent watching Property Brothers, House Hunters, and Flip or Flop. But our absolute favorite? Fixer Upper. As we binged all five seasons, we witnessed Chip and Joanna Gaines transform their small-town home renovation show into a mainstream home and lifestyle megabrand. What made them unique is that they also gave viewers a small peek into their own home life. Seeing how they grew both their careers and family, what they stand for truly resonated with us: honest hard work, passion for their careers, and a loving and family-oriented lifestyle. So, with the advent of trendy, over-the-top first birthday parties catered towards adults, we decided to bring the Magnolia Marketplace to our very own California baby girl.
Party Planning Design
With Fall upon us, our design goal was to embrace the earthy tones of the outdoors and marry them with the clean lines of the ever-trendy modern farmhouse vibes. I knew immediately that I wanted to use cotton plants for our centerpieces. There’s something about them that just reads simplicity and rustic elegance. And let’s not forget a fun pop of coral and pink to spark that party mood! One of the key decorations I really wanted to have was a deconstructed memory board to document all of Paige’s first-year milestones. I put each memory in a photo frame just as you would create a photo collage on a wall in your home, and it turned out amazing!
Shiplap Inspiration
All of our party decorations were inspired by Magnolia Marketplace in Waco, TX as well as Chip & Joanna’s Hearth & Hand line seen in Target Stores. However, as it was a kid’s birthday party, after all, I wanted to incorporate fun activities for Paige’s cousins and friends to enjoy. I designed the layout of the event to feature distinct areas that all offered a variety of activities: Paige’s House, The Lawn, the Bakery, The Garden Shop, The Dining Hall, and The Store…
THE LAWN:
The soft-play rentals from Toddler Playzone were a huge hit with the kids. The most loved being the bouncy farm animals. So many smiles and giggles!
THE BAKERY:
The dessert display was custom built by our friends at Artistique Imagery Studios and made especially for little tots. It even had a chalkboard for doodling! The colorful and fun abstract cake and mini desserts were hand-crafted by Happy Sweet Bakery. The black frosting on the smash cake definitely made for some interesting cake smash photos and cleanup, but Paige had so much fun we couldn’t help but laugh!!
THE GARDEN SHOP:
The older girls had a blast decorating their own flower crowns at our version of the Garden Shop.
THE STORE:
And to top it off, our little ones had the chance to “go shopping”. They filled their coloring book bags with markers, bubbles, and yummy snacks. We even had custom-designed reusable grocery bags that were a hit with the adults.
It was such a special day! It carried even more meaning for me to use my party planning skills for my baby. We are so happy that we had Erich to photograph our event so we can share these memories with Paige when she grows older.”
