Party Recap

Fairy tales and Disneyland are almost always synonymous, especially for Erica and Karla. From their first date – which included hours of talking on a bench in the Beast’s Library – to the day of their engagement, Karla knew that was the spot where she’d end up proposing. “I brought Erica to Disneyland during the holiday season of 2015 with a ring in my pocket,” she remembers, and asked Erica if she wanted to revisit the bench where they’d spent their first date, and proposed right then and there.

The planning inspiration began “with a slice of cake” at Martha Green’s Dough’Lectibles Bakery in Redlands, California, where they tasted the delicious Orange Blitz cake. Redlands itself is an old citrus town, so it was only fitting that they embraced the overall theme, as well as choosing their venue nestled within a citrus grove. They kept with the pop of color by introducing orange ranunculus to their floral décor.

Both Erica and Karla went the DIY route by recreating orange crates using CD boxes from a local craft store and printing their own vintage-style labels. A portion of these decorations also doubled as wedding favors.

As for favorite day-of details, the couple agrees that the first look was at the top of the list – “we loved taking photos in the barn before our guests arrived, and then strolling through an open field at sunset” – and the on-site BBQ catering was also a prized addition. Their advice for future couples planning their big day is simple but crucial: “Get to know your vendors. Spend time with them sharing your vision so that they can help you create it on your special day. Having the right team behind you will allow you to stay in the moments that matter on the big day.”
