Party Recap
Planning my baby girl's first birthday party was such a delight! I had so much fun helping to design them and get the wording just perfect. I came up with the theme of "Sugar & Spice" because my Elyse is just that. Super sweet with a touch of sass! I crafted and DIY'd for months- including making a fabric backdrop that used strips of lace, gold satin, and pink fabrics. I also made several strand garlands of glitter gold and pink hearts to use on the sign in/favor table, on her high chair, and as a cake topper for one of the cakes. I cut pieces of glittered gold paper and used those to make the labels on the dessert table. For the dining tables, I layered gold and pink fabric and placed a mason jar that I had painted gold and added gold glitter to. For the forks I wrapped a pink napkin around each one and secured that with ribbon and a sugar cube that we drilled holes in.
Elyse and I are very active in the Instagram/shop small community, so we also incorporated several of our favorites in the "extra" decor. Her whole birthday outfit came from Etsy/Instagram shops and it felt great knowing that we are giving small businesses our support! I also purchased her Chalkboard art and a few other decor items like the "Elyse" felt crown and our invitations from amazing Etsy shops.
Party Highlights
-
What People Ate
Designing the menu was even sweeter and since I have a side business baking cakes and cupcakes. On the dessert table I used cakes of different buttercream and fondant designs and styles to accent the overall look. I also bought pink lollipops and gumballs and made snickerdoodles and sugar cookies that I decorated with royal icing. We also had popsicles and Annie's fruit snacks
-
What People Drank
For our beverages I made strawberry lemonade and we had iced coffee- which was a perfect drink selection combo for the 90 degree weather here in CA! I also had water bottles that had strips of pink and glitter gold washi tape for an added dose of decor.

Party Favors
Little gold hearts were glued onto mini jars and tied with pink string and "Sugar & Spice" label then filled with cinnamon and sugar mixtures for our guests to take home as favors!
-
Activities / Games
There was a "Sugar & Spice" book for them to sign which I now have as a keepsake for my baby girl. I also had a photo backdrop that our photographer used to take photos of the guests and created that out of layering plastic tablecloths together. At our "Kids Corner", I had an option for the little ones to decorate their own sugar cookie- or fingerpaint or blow bubbles.
