Party Recap

Figuring out the theme to have for my daughter’s second party was a tough one. A kitty cat theme was a close tie with Minnie Mouse; however, I figured a general theme would be easier, and cheaper, than a specific character. It is easier to make things if they don’t have an expectation to look a certain way!
The party was supposed to be held at a local beach park, but we were rained out, so about an hour before the party was scheduled, we had to get the house cleaned and set up! I say we did pretty darn good for only having an hour haha
Upon entering, guests were greeted with a sign, “Welcome Kitties! Paint whiskers and grab ears!” I found some cute, plastic kitty ears on Amazon, and bought a couple 99 cent black Halloween face crayons from Party City. They do smear pretty badly though, so if I could do it over, I would probably use eye liner.
We had the snack table in the front room with lots of fun kitty snacks. We had some pb&j’s in shapes of cats, and then regular meat sandwiches just cut in half (since many kids don’t like the crust and it’s easier to differentiate). We had donut holes sprinkled with coconut to make “hairballs”. We also found some paw print shaped Cheetos from Walmart which went purrfectly with our theme. I also had three actual kitty bowls, bought from Dollar Tree, filled with gold fish sitting around our house for people to munch on. I had a “litter box” (a metal baking pan) filled with ChexMix and chocolate chunks and a (brand new) poop scooper to make it look more realistic. I put a bowl of mixed fruit out as well just for more snack variety. I found a cute little kitty spoon holder at Marshall’s.
For the dessert table, I used a plain white tablecloth so I could do paw print stamps all over. I made chocolate cupcakes, some topped with marshmallows to look like paw prints, and the others with yarn balls on toothpicks. I bought some cat toys from the dollar store as decorations. The cake was the biggest hit! It was a funfetti triple layer. It definitely took the longest to make, but it was well worth it, and it tasted delicious! I cut out cat shapes to hang in front of the table. I bought the silver “MEOW” balloon banner from EBay. I made the yarn garland. I bought the silver “2” balloon from Party City, along with the pink balloons. I cut out the noses, whiskers, and ears and glued them to the balloons to look like kitty faces. The piñata was a pain to make, but turned out cute, and everyone couldn’t believe I made it myself.
To keep the kids entertained, I printed out cat pictures and provided crayons for them to color.
I’d say it was a puuurrfect day afterall (;
