Party Recap

My guy wanted a science party so we had to deliver. We are not ones to hire others to put on a show when we naturally do these kinds of experiments at home so we decided to do it ourselves. Which means I had a lot to prepare. I made lab experiment packs for each kid which included aluminum deep dish to hold a socked up water bottle for bubble snake, a solo cup sealed on large end and a cut out hole on the smaller side for the dry ice cannons, and mini diet coke with mentos in a bag. We made bubble solution and poured it in dishes in the middle of the table for the kids to make bubble snakes and the main aluminum dishes were used for the diet coke experiments. Afterward we put on a real show with several 2 L sodas to show the biggest geyser we could make.

  • Activities / Games

as people arrived we had Bill Nye the Science guy on tv, got them ready with glasses and aprons, scanned their hands to get outside to outdoor lab in the backyard. The tables were set for the experiments for each child. We first started with dry ice cannons- an open hole solo cups sealed off with saran wrap and rubber band to drop the dry ice piece into so the kids could pat out dry ice smoke rings. Bubble snakes- take a empty water bottle with the bottom cut out and covered with a sock and sealed up with duct tape. Dip the sock end into bubble solution and blow through the drinking end of the water bottle to blow out a long strand of bubbles to make a linked "snake". Diet Coke geysers- take mini diet coke bottles and drop only 1-2 peppermint mentos candy into the bottles and watch the spray geyser come up. We then took this up another notch by putting on a soda geyser show. We tried 4 more different types of soda all different colors (Mountain Dew Blue, Big Red, Diet Coke, and Sprite) to see the different effects. Then we finished with snacks and cookie cake.
