Selected as Party of the Day on January 26th!
Celina's Boho Disco Mermaid SHELLebration
ByParty Recap
When my daughter, Celina discovered a newfound love for mermaids, I knew this is the theme we had to run with. Unfortunately, the day before her birthday and a week before her party, she fell and broke her arm! We were certain we'd either eliminate the "swim" aspect from the party or cancel it all together. As the date approached, we couldn't find it in our hearts to do either. She deserved a SHELLebration more than ever so the show must go on! Thankfully, waterproof cast protectors exist, and she couldn't have cared any less about a broken arm!
I recently “retired” from my career as an Activities/Event Director for residential communities to assist my husband with our family business. Being able to still fuel the creative party-planning part of my brain through my child’s celebrations brings me so much joy! One of my favorite aspects of doing so is supporting so many other small businesses in the process. Being a small shop owner myself, I have made so many wonderful friends and I love being able to include them.
The color palette was inspired by the small shop, Cici & Me. I purchased their mermaid gift wrap bundle and “Yay!” pennant flag. I loved the pops of pink and shades of orange and yellow mixed into the traditional purple and teal mermaid vibe. I try to somehow incorporate rainbows into her party themes every year, so this worked out perfectly even if those details were discreet.
My tried and true for event florals has always been Trader Joes. The assortment of hues and textures coordinated perfectly with the balloons provided by The Party Girl Company. The combination of the sparkly seashell party goods and holographic tablecloths set off the perfect amount of mermaid magic.
The mermaid bath bomb favors by Musee were impeccably themed alongside the starfish wands I “DIYed” embellished with various glitters and ribbons.
Between swimming and socializing, our adult guests enjoyed the Empress Gin lavender lemonade while the littles enjoyed cotton candy, lemon and birthday cake flavored macarons, and sugar cookies. The cake was chocolate with ganache filling. It was adorned with beautiful boho-inspired florals and disco balls. The desserts probably deserve a post of their own, as they truly were artistic edible masterpieces!
Celina had the best day with her family and close friends, a broken arm and all!
