Boho Rust Sunset Boat Dinner Party

My parents live on a boat, also known as full time liveaboards and keep their floating home on the Chesapeake Bay in the summer months. In the fall they journey south to warmer weather. Before they leave the area I plan a sunset boat dinner with the adults of the family.

This year I was inspired by rust yarn I found at Joanne Fabrics. In addition to the rust I went with a neutral sunset colorway. With the venue being a boat the main backdrop was the water and to make it more dreamy I custom dyed cheesecloth and layered it with a wood bead yarn tassel garland from Rusty Chic Décor. On each end I added a large dried sun palm and eucalyptus. To add to the magical vibe of the evening we hung outdoor string lights.

Not knowing if the temperature would dip, I added two cozy blankets to the back seat of the boat. Their patterns, texture and tassels were the perfect boho flair. A few pillows filled in the seat and made it feel extra cozy.

When you live on a boat you have to make the most of every space, so their table is a dock box with a teak table top. To transform it I laid eucalyptus and tucked in burnt orange mums. Each place setting had chic white and gold cutlery, natural palm leaf plates, and floral napkins. Coordinating burnt orange cups were perfect for the delicious sangria! Additional décor included vases, pampas grass, dried palms, and lanterns.

A rattan and wood butler tray held a gorgeous flower arrangement, sangria and sushi. I picked up flowers from Trader Joes and arranged 3 low arrangements including a mix of mums, craspedia billy balls, roses and eucalyptus.

After indulging in dinner, we watched the sunset from the front of the boat. A wonderful evening full of conversation, good food, drinks and an incredible sunset makes for wonderful memories.
