Boho Modern Going 2 the Zoo Party

For my daughter’s second birthday I was inspired to do a unique spin on a zoo theme so I went with modern boho vibes and a colorway of teal and coral. Dried florals and animal print, need I say more?! We love to sing Raffi’s “Going to the zoo” song so the tag line for her party was “Going 2 the zoo!”

The party invitation was custom designed by Sunshine Tulip Design and set the mood with the minimalist boho vibes.

For the parties main backdrop I hand painted animal print and boho motif on paper mache letters that spelled “Going 2 the Zoo” I added boho vibes with the oo in zoo. A lion mane crafted out of an embroidery hoop and rafia ribbon and the other was a giraffe boho hoop wreath. The balloon installation was a labor of love and the perfect photo backdrop. A mix of different size balloons including a mylar zebra allowed me to cover the window on the back of the house and transform our back deck into a zoo soiree! I hand painted a 36 inch balloon to personalize the backdrop with “Carleigh is 2” and cheetah print.

The party activities included visiting the zoo gift shop and getting an animal headband, snap bracelet and animal print sunglasses. The gift shop was an upcycled wire grid that I painted black and adorned with a wood bead yarn tassel garland and DIY boho dried floral swag. Other activities included visiting the teepee and making a balloon animal.

The well curated table included little spray painted animals, confetti (a mix of coral/teal tissue paper and gold animal silhouettes), white gauze table runner, and handcrafted dried floral centerpieces. The lion and elephant vases added a minimalist modern vibe. Each place setting had a circle coral plate, darling zebra shaped napkin, chic black cutlery and animal print cup and napkins. Each chair had a magic scratch art animal tied with pretty coral and gold yarn.

Food included hungry hippo dip, vegetables, snake meatball sandwiches, cheetah print bread, ants on a log and chocolate cake with a strawberry filling. The food was labeled with DIY acrylic signs. The cake was minimalist (but delicious!) and was dressed with an acrylic “2 the zoo” topper from Cocoa and Confetti. All food was prepared by my talented husband! The food table was dressed with a zoo fabric garland, zoo animals and DIY boho floral arrangements. A ton of spray painted baby’s breath was around the party to pull in the fun color scheme.
