Party Recap

I wanted something special for my early May babe who was turning 3 this year. An art print by artist Katie Daisy that reads "April showers bring May flowers" hangs in my daughter's bedroom and served as the inspiration for her party. I wanted to combine rain, rainbows and flowers into an adorable theme (that I haven't seen done before). Unfortunately, after months of planning this adorable party--the pandemic made it so my household of 6 were the only guests (originally it was to be a birthday brunch with around 30 guests).

Regardless of the guest count only consisting of the people in my house, my daughter still was going to get a cool party. Before the lockdown, I found 3 awesome flower umbrellas that served as the basis for the arch I designed. I used my copper arch and added the umbrellas and then surrounded them with balloon clouds and added raindrops I designed and cut on my Cricut and sewed into a garland "dripping" off the umbrellas. I added a rainbow balloon and rainbow garland behind. I designed birthday banners and a sign that said "April Showers bring May Flowers" and added green balloons and flower balloons to the bottom. Butterflies for added accent. I used an antique yellow table with rainbow linen and glass cake stands to display the cake and raindrop cookies my friend Flour & Flowers by MK made. The cake was utterly perfect-- with etched, palette-knifed and piped flowers and leaves that mimicked the ones on the handmade dress I sewed for my daughter.
Of course any party that has "flowers" in the title needed fresh floral arrangements, I am a florist after all. I was able to design 5 different mixed spring bloom arrangements for the party.
The canvas rainbow favor bags (which my 3 kids enjoyed and then we porch-dropped off the rest to neighbor kids and friends) were filled with a rainbow crayon, Airhead rainbow candy, rainbow rings, umbrella bubbles, and a lollipop. My kids loved them and used the bubbles right away.
The most important thing about this party is that my 3-year-old, the birthday girl, absolutely LOVED IT. She was mesmerized by the decorations and devoured the cake and cookies. She felt special on her birthday as she should have regardless of the pandemic shelter-at-home throwing a wrench in our original plans. So party on people, party on!
