Party Recap

I am a huge Harry Potter fan and in finally introducing my son to this magical world I decided to have a 10th birthday party. An owl went to school and delivered acceptance letter invitations to his classmates and our other family members had theirs delivered by the OWL Post. I scoured the internet for lots of ideas and made as many things as I could myself with the help of Etsy digital downloads. I assisted my sister-in-law in making the whomping willow tree right there in the basement and was thrilled with how it turned out. There were at least 35 Hogwarts first years in attendance and most of the parents stayed or came back very early to pick up their children. Of course they ended up staying. Each child was sorted by the animated talking Sorting Hat in front of the Diagonal alley backdrop and got dressed in their respective ties and robes. I hired a magician to perform at the party and it was a good thing I did. The sheer volume of attendees would have made it near impossible to play all the other games I had prepared for them and those were totally unnecessary. The magician kept them enthralled for an hour and a half...yippee!!!! Everyone "purchased" sweets from Honeydukes and had Cake and ice cream for dessert. The first years dined on pizza right before the Magic Show so the timing was perfect. Being Jamaican, there was also a huge feast prepared for the adults and any children who cared to indulge and believe me they ATE!!!! As each guest left I presented them with Hogwarts diplomas which I made myself from following various tutorials I saw and it was truly magical.

This looks so amazing! You did such a wonderful job. That is one lucky boy. I wish my son was into Harry Potter. Maybe by the time he turns ten I will be so lucky. Where did you find that wall back drop? It seems as though it goes from ceiling to floor. I always have a hard time finding scene setters wider than four feet.

Hi Raquel, The backdrops were purchased on Amazon and are also sold on Shindigz.co. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BIPGZ4U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. 2 4 by 50' for each wall. It is actually bulletin board paper and the most affordable option for setting the entire scene. Most importantly there is no glare in photos. Adam became enthused was he saw me caught up and read the first two books which was a prerequisite for having this party. All his classmates are potterheads but all others were given homework to watch the movies prior to attending. Now there are a lot of convertees....there is always HOPE...lol.
