It’s extremely hard to believe that over a year ago now our NICU journey with our little babe had only just begun. On this exact day twelve months ago our entire world was turned up on its head with the news that we would be delivering our baby eleven weeks early. In that very moment this, today, here and now was something we thought might never happen. And yet here we are, one year on, to see this little girl grow from a tiny 790g baby to a thriving, beautiful bouncing baby girl that is bigger than life itself has been nothing short of a miracle.
Although Blair’s entrance into this world wasn’t as we planned or imagined, we have learned so much, grown so much and gained so much for experiencing everything that we did with her. We are much better versions of ourselves because of our experience. We appreciate the small things more than ever before and have learned to not take for granted are what we would call somewhat boring and monotonous life. It is really quite scary how quickly things in this world can change, but never the less we hope that our experience has not only allowed us to grow but in some way has rubbed off on each and every one of you and helped you appreciate all of the moments you do have with your loved ones.
We are so proud of this little lady, she has come so far and achieved so much in the last twelve months. Every obstacle that was placed in front of her she climbed with ease, she made quite a name for herself in the NICU as the ‘hot chilly pepper’ a name that was bestowed upon her by one of her many beautiful nurses her ‘NICU parents’ that were there with her and for her when we couldn’t be. Although in the beginning, she was tiny and fragile her fighting spirit was apparent to us from day one, this little girl ‘mark my words’ is destined for big things and we as her parents cannot express how proud we are of her, of both of our daughters, we are today and every other day for that matter the luckiest two people to be able to raise these two beautiful girls.
In lieu of gifts for Blair, we requested that all our family and friends donate to a fund we set up for the Monash NICU. We were fortunate enough to raise almost $3000 for the Monash Hospital NICU and the money will be spent to purchases a Kangaroo Chair that will get plenty of use for those all important cuddles with the babies in the NICU and their parents
