A 40something Birthday Party

My husband turned 46 years old last April. Since this wasn't a significant number like 40 or 45 I came up with the theme "40something" and did not reveal he was turning 46th ;) I invited 50 of our closest friends and we had a great turn out. I prepared most of the food to stay on budget. Baked a 4 layer yellow cake (his favorite) with buttercream frosting. We had quite an array of wine and since we have some wine lovers, I designed a few "wine cards" for each wine, describing the type of wine, region and a cool fact. People loved this and ventured out to try different wines. We had an amazing time and the party turned out just exactly as I pictured it. A fun, intimate party with great music, food and good friends!

• What People Ate

  Appetizers including mozzarella caprese, homemade traditional hummus and red pepper humus, meat and cheeses, brie with pepper jelly, 4 layer homemade yellow cake with butter cream frosting, small chocolate mini-cupcakes, strawberries filled with cream cheese.

• Best Moment

  Everyone talking and sipping wine, sitting in the small seating sections I had arranged.

• Funniest Moment

  When my husband was trying to light the candles, that of course, I HAD to decorate with gold polka dot washi tape! He was smiling and thinking "Fire Hazard!" ;)

• Most Touching Moment

  Everyone sand happy birthday in 3 different languages! Spanish, English and another Spanish version of happy birthday.

• Best Dressed

  Everyone was beautiful dressed

  4 layer yellow cake with butte cream frosting (homemade) an adapted from "The Cake Bible". Chocolate mini-cupcakes and strawberries filled with cream cheese.

  Wine tasting with help of custom-design wine cards, describing the kind of wine, region and a cool fact for each bottle of wine.
