I did this banner very traditional I used 4x4 inch white chipboard squares. I distressed the edges of each square for that vintage look. I used multi colored card stock and permanently attached the letters to the squares. I added the Kwanzaa candles at each end of the word "happy". I used black for the ribbon and red and green bows. I love the traditional/vintage colors and the total look of this banner. It's not too much so that it will work with many different styles of decor. .

This banner measures-

HAPPY- 28 inches
KWANZAA- 28 inches

That measurement is just the chipboard side by side with out any space between. You'll get excess ribbon to spread out your letters and to hang it.
