Party Recap

Our daughter was born during Mardi Gras and since we live on the parade route it only made sense to have a Mardi Gras themed party with a twist. We host this party with some friends, our children were born four days apart. The Kiddie Krewe has a parade every year with a different theme, this year the theme was movies. For the invitation I used real popcorn bags with a popcorn insert. "Admit One" movie tickets were added to the invitation for that extra movie feel.

When the "celebrities" arrived they were greeted by the purple carpet. The step and repeat wall behind the purple carpet displayed the logo of the Royal Court, Queen Audrey, King Hank and Dutchess Audrey. They were given their VIP Pass which they autographed, a bag of throws for the Kiddie Krewe parade and their party favors.

If you plan to have an annual party like this one it's a good idea to invest in some good decor or create your own. My husband cut the jester shape I drew out of a 4x8' sheet of plywood which I painted and embellished with glitter, beads and other accents. He always stands by the front of the house to greet guests for the party.

The "celebrities" and their parents decorated their floats for the Kiddie Parade. We announce the theme in October so parents can take advantage of Halloween costumes. The floats seem to get better and better each year. The parade starts in our driveway then carries out into the street which has been blocked off for the parade. The children love the cheers they get from strangers and throwing beads and having such a good time. People along the route get a kick out of seeing all the kids dressed up with their floats. The Louisiana Tourist Bureau even took pictures this year of the Kiddie Krewe parade. This year's Oscar winner was the Aristocats float, second place was The Little Mermaid and third was Star Wars. After the parade guests were treated to live music by the BradyHawkes.

We purchased an Oscar statue from our local trophy and awards store and had it engraved and embellished it with it's own Mardi Gras jester hat and beads. Second and Third place received movie clapboards with the number 2 and 3 on them.

Guests were treated to movie food including hot dogs, popcorn, cupcakes, Gambino's King Cake and a candy bar. Custom movie and Mardi Gras themed cupcake toppers were created by Two Sugar Babies and were covered in edible glitter! Everyone enjoyed all the food and the candy bar was a huge hit. After the Kiddie Krewe parade, birthday cake, treats and live music guests enjoyed the Krewe of Centaur parade which rolled right in front of the house and yelled "Throw Me Somethin' Mister"!
