Party Recap

When my cousin announced she and her husband were expecting their first baby, I could not wait to help hostess her baby shower. When she called to tell me she was having a little girl, I was speechless and thrilled beyond words. (You see, I have 2 boys…two perfect little boys who will not be getting any more siblings.) Everything in my house is camo or blue, and has some sort of dirt, mud, well- you get the picture. The hostesses (my mom, aunt and another cousin) came together and decided this was going to be the girliest shower. Ever.

We met one night and got all the plans in place. From food to drink, to hostess gift and décor, our shower was planned. Our theme, Tiffany & Co., but all pink. We did change and add a few things along the way, but for the most part, we were organized from the start.

Because I own a paper studio, Between the Sheets Co., I volunteered to do all the paper details, which included the invitations (to.die.for.), book labels, table signs, napkins, wooden stir sticks, advice cards, and ribbon. The four of us were definitely thinking PINK!

Each guest received a very unique invitation in the mail. Instead of using the everyday envelope, we boxed the invitations (like a Tiffany & Co. gift) in a pink box. Each paper invitation inside the box was tied with a white satin ribbon. In the box, the guests were given a book label and asked to write the mom and baby a sweet note and affix it to their favorite children’s book (in lieu of a card, of course!)

The décor was constantly a work in progress, as I kept seeing so many fun items to decorate with! I ended up going with the Martha Stewart poms, strands of faux pearls, and the most fabulous table skirt you have ever seen. (My mom hand sewed over 20 yards of toule together to make the skirt- it was no small task!)

For the flowers, I scoured the internet looking for an arrangement that I thought would be striking, yet sophisticated. And I feel we got just that! Our family florist took all shades of pinks and whites and made the most gorgeous arrangement for the center of our table. Inside the arrangement, we asked him to use strands of small pearls to give it that elegant look. He used some left over hydrangeas and roses to fill little, square vases for us to set around the house. If anything, the flowers really brought life to the place.

We served a light lunch to over 30 guests, and I must say, it was delicious. My mom and aunt made all the food which included, mini quiche, a mixed green salad, and fruit skewers. We used the wooden stir sticks as the skewers for the fruit. Everyone was in awe of the creativity.

The drinks were served out of large drink dispensers and of course, we had the most beautiful glassware. For the water and tea, we had bright pink striped straws tucked inside mini carfares, bejeweled with one-inch thick faux diamonds and sweet, thin, pink, satin ribbon. For the strawberry punch, we rimmed each glass with hot pink sanding sugar.

Once the mom-to-be started opening gifts, we served oversized petit fours. They were the hit of the party! Each petit four was iced in light pink icing and had a white icing ribbon and bow, made to look like the Tiffany & Co. jewelry box. On each plate, we served, we embellished with an edible sugar diamond and luxurious white doily.

My cousin has some really great friends! She opened so many fun baby gifts, and so much pink! Once she finished opening the gifts, each guest was given a small pink box, tied with custom, Charlotte & Co. ribbon. Each box held a delicious double chocolate cake ball.

The Tiffany & Co. themed shower was an absolute hit, and we made it our own by translating the “little blue box,” to the little pink box. I simply cannot wait to meet baby Charlotte and hug my cousins neck, welcoming her to the ‘mom club.’

PS- the wreath in the pictures was made by the mom-to-be’s own mom! She used real baby booties and socks, a great conversation piece!
