We celebrated Gaines' first birthday with The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I kept it as simple as I could with finger foods, homemade decor & a pool party at Grammy & Gramps!
Edgars made Gaines an adorable cake and smash cake; it was delicious!
For the older kids, I had an "ice cream cone" pinata since TVHC eats an ice cream cone. It was full of Sour Patch Watermelons and suckers because TVHC also eats watermelon and a lollipop.
Gaines fell asleep about an hour into his swimming party then woke up just in time for smash cake which he was not interested in at all. We gave him time to wake up, tried again a little later and he had it all over him; loved it!
What People Ate
I had food throughout the book at Gaines' party: watermelon, strawberries, cheese, pickles, summer sausage, chocolate cake, orange slices in place of oranges, etc.
What People Drank
water, capri sun
My amazing friend made Gaines' birthday banner which is now hanging in his room. I also printed wording from the book to display on the food table, bought the Eric Carle fabric online, made caterpillars out of feathers and fuzzy dots from Hobby Lobby and purchased the cute caterpillar in the box to display.
