Party Recap
The first birthday is such an exciting time yet the 21st century has made it extremely stressful for moms trying to determine a theme. Gone are the days of Betty Crocker cakes with the plastic tablecloths from the party store. I knew this party was really for me, but you bet I wanted to have the party of the century so people would talk about it for years to come! Every detail of the party was handcrafted. From the tissue paper garland to the streamer wall and miniature bow ties throughout, the theme of blue & green came alive.
Party Highlights
-
What People Ate
Some would consider it gourmet for a 1st birthday but if you knew me, you would know to expect nothing less. Bacon wrapped piggies, gourmet sliders with arugula & smoked Gouda cheese, cream cheese filled cucumbers, bow tie shaped PBJ sandwiches, veggie cups, bruschetta and pear & Brie puff pastry bites.
-
What People Drank
Lemonade. We created a drink station with lemonade as the drink of choice. I added a few carafes of homemade strawberry purée so guests could have flavored lemonade if they wished.
-
Desserts
Cake pops and cake from Everything Cake. The cake pops were blue and green which went with the theme. The cake itself was three layers of red velvet topped with a giant vanilla cupcake that became the smash cake. We also had chocolate covered pretzels with blue & green sprinkles and chocolate mini cupcakes with buttercream frosting.

Party Favors
We didn't have a favor for guests to take away, although many of them took cake pops as their party favor!
-
Activities / Games
Smash cake! The # of children at the party was pretty small so this party was really for adults. The best activity was by far the cake smash.

Friends & Family
My mother in law was a tremendous help. From cutting and gluing 36 mini bow ties to helping hang the streamers I couldn't have done it without her. Friends Courtney, Chela and Brittany arrived before the party to finish last minute prep on food items. I couldn't have done it without them!
