Labradorite is a lovely blue stone which displays a quality called labradorescence, in which a rainbow of colorful light waves play across cleavage planes, giving the stone an almost holographic quality.
The Eskimo people told a legend of a wandering warrior who found the northern lights trapped in a cliff and smashed the rock with his spear, thereby releasing the lights back into the sky. However, a small amount of light remained in the stone and is today found in Labradorite.
