--------------------{HOW TO USE SEAMLESS PATTERN TILES}-------------------
1). First unzip the folder once it has been downloaded. You can do so by extracting or unzipping the folder depending on whether you have a Mac or Windows computer.
Please Note: All seamless pattern tiles are provided as repeatable PNG files.
2). Instructions for using in Illustrator:
2b.) Open the selected PNG seamless pattern tile in Illustrator by choosing the ‘open with’ option and select Adobe Illustrator (doesn’t matter which version of Illustrator you have). Alternatively you can drag the selected PNG file from the folder it is in straight into Illustrator manually.
2c). Once the file is open in Illustrator you are ready to tile the pattern. If you’ve dragged the png into Illustrator you will need to embed the seamless PNG pattern tile. If you’ve opened the file with
Illustrator this is done automatically for you. To embed simply click on the option to embed that will automatically appear after you’ve dragged the file into Illustrator. This option can be found just below the top menu, next to where the file name usually appears. Alternatively, click on the ‘Windows’ option. Scroll down to ‘Links’ and click on it. This will open up a panel on the right side called ‘Links’. There you will find a thumbnail of the seamless PNG pattern (or patterns depending on how many PNG files you have dragged
into Illustrator). Click on the PNG file you wish to embed and click on the menu with the three dashes in the top right of the panel. This will open up a menu to the right. Scroll down to ‘Embed’ and click on it. The seamless PNG pattern has now been embedded.
2d). Once the seamless PNG pattern has been embedded you can begin to tile the pattern. To tile a seamless pattern, select the PNG pattern with the selection tool (black triangular arrow in top left hand menu), then click ‘Object’ from the main menu. Scroll down to ‘Pattern’ option and click ‘Make’ from the sub menu that will appear. The Illustrator pattern maker will open up and you will start to see the pattern tile. To check how well the pattern tiles simply click on the ‘Copies’ box in the ‘Pattern Options’ box
on the left. Here you can choose how many repeats of the pattern you wish to see. It is usually automatically set to 3x3 but you can choose up to 9x9. The pattern will automatically repeat itself as it is a seamless pattern. There is no need to amend anything. This step is to enable you to save the seamless PNG as a tileable pattern in your swatch panel so you are able to use this seamless pattern to fill backgrounds,
objects, merchandise etc.
2e). Next click ‘Done’. Then check your swatch panel. The new tileable pattern will now have been added to your swatch panel. That’s it! You are ready to use the pattern.
All seamless patterns can be rotated to change the direction of the pattern.
2f). Once you have added the seamless PNG pattern tile to your swatches panel, click on the shape, artwork or section you wish to fill with the pattern, then click on the pattern in the swatches panel. Your chosen shape, artwork or section will now be filled with the pattern. Next (making sure your shape, artwork or section is still selected) click on the ‘Object’ option from the top menu and click on ‘Transform’, then ‘Rotate’. You can change the angle of the pattern here choosing 45 degrees or -45 degrees for
a diagonal direction or 90 degrees to change a horizontally facing pattern to vertical and vice versa.
Please note the seamless patterns are provided without texture.
