Gold-Plated Cheese Markers -- SOLD INDIVIDUALLY

★ These repurposed, vintage, gold-plated fork, knife, and spoon handles stamped with cheese names or styles (e.g., smokey, crumbly, stinky, hard, soft, creamy, etc.) make great housewarming or hostess gifts and holiday or birthday gifts for the cooks or foodies in your life. The cheese markers are made from the reclaimed handles of vintage gold-plated flatware (spoons, forks, and knives) and then hand-stamped by me using a hammer and metal "punches" to decorate them each with the word of your choosing.

★ Each cheese marker is custom hand-stamped to order with the cheese name or style of your choosing. From the quantity menu, select how many total cheese markers you want and whether or not you want them gift boxed.

-- 1-4 cheese markers will fit in one gift box. 5-6 cheese markers will require 2 gift boxes, as per the drop-down menu options. The Kraft gift box comes tied with twine and with each cheese marker individually sealed in a recloseable baggie inside, as shown in the sample photos.

★ These cheese markers are made from vintage gold-plated flatware handles (spoons, knives, and forks). They will vary in both length and pattern. Your set of cheese markers will come from a variety of different patterns (mixed, not matching) and will not necessarily be from the same patterns pictured in the sample photos.

★ Each cheese marker will be stamped using a different letter font, as shown, unless you like a specific font pictured. If so, please let me know at Checkout which pictured marker (e.g., the "Gouda" marker shown) you'd like for the hand-stamped font on your cheese marker(s).

★ All of the gold-plated flatware is reclaimed/used and is vintage. Due to their previous lives, please be aware that pieces will show signs of wear including small scratches, nicks, little spots, and/or some areas of plate-wear as shown in the sample photos.

★ The tip of each gold-plated handle is cut off and carefully sanded to a smooth finish. There will be some stainless steel (the base metal) showing at the tip of the cheese marker, whether it is from the partial blade of a knife or from the neck of a spoon or fork.

1) What Exactly is Vintage/Reclaimed/Repurposed GOLD-PLATED Flatware?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This means the flatware pieces are previously used and can include nicks, spots, plate-wear, and scratches. Each piece is thoroughly cleaned and inspected by me. Reviving these discarded pieces and giving them a new life as garden/plant/flower markers, cheese markers, OR other garden art is a fun way to reuse and recycle as well as to enjoy their vintage charm and history.

GOLD plating (electroplating) on antique flatware varies in color, thickness, and patina between pieces (and even within patterns) depending on the original design as well as how much each piece was used in its previous life. Because of the age and history of my reclaimed flatware pieces, imperfections/wear are to be expected and cherished -- that is part of their charm and character.

2) How Should I Care for my Vintage GOLD-PLATED Flatware?

Please gently hand wash your GOLD-plated cheese markers. This will help to preserve the GOLD electroplating, making the cheese markers last longer. Mild dishwashing detergent, lukewarm water, and a soft cloth can be used to clean GOLD-plated flatware.

It is normal for GOLD-plated pieces to darken and tarnish over time. Because of the electroplating, there is a risk of chipping the real gold when cleaning the pieces. After hand-washing, *gently* using a gold polishing cloth can restore the shine to the gold-electroplating. However, take care NOT to polish too long or too roughly, as that can remove the gold-electroplating from the stainless steel base.

3) Are the Letters/Characters Engraved?
-------------------------------------------------------
No, each letter on the flatware is lovingly hand stamped (i.e., hammered by hand by me). I carefully hand stamp each letter -- one at a time. Therefore, no two pieces ever will be exactly the same due to the font/pattern used, the precise placement of each character, the character alignment, the depth of each impression, and stamp uniformity. This adds to the character, charm, and uniqueness of the pieces. Engraving is done with a machine, not by hand.

Because of the nature of hand-stamping, it is impossible to guarantee that 100% of letters/numbers/characters will be perfectly aligned. I am not a machine. In some cases, minor tool markings may be evident on the front and/or back of the flatware depending on the design & thickness of the piece.

4) About Darkening in the Letters on Garden Markers, Plant Stakes, Herb Markers, Cheese Markers, and Other Garden/Kitchen Art.

Most GOLD-plated flatware has a stainless steel base. Stainless steel cannot be darkened in using natural oxidation (i.e., tarnishing). Although stainless steel can be darkened in using a semi-permanent ink that is SAFE FOR FOOD CONTACT, it does *NOT* IMPLY that the ink is safe for consumption or putting in the mouth. These products may be identified as "non-toxic" but are only labeled as such for "normal" intended use, which does not include putting the paint or ink in your mouth or eating it.

"Normal use" does NOT include consuming any amount of the ink. This certification as "non-toxic" (or safe for food contact) also does NOT mean that materials are not irritants or allergens. Such products are certified by ACMI to be labeled in accordance with the chronic hazard labeling standard, ASTM D 4236, and the U.S. Labeling of Hazardous Art Materials Act (LHAMA). For more information, you can search the Internet on topics such as "Are permanent markers toxic?," "What does ACMI AP certification mean?," "What is ASTM D-4236 certification?," or look up the MSDS for a particular brand of permanent marker.

And on ACMI's website, it reminds readers to not put your pen in your mouth, to avoid skin contact, and to avoid eating art materials. Moreover, "never use products for skin painting or food preparation unless indicated that the product is meant to be used in this way." The stamped characters on my pennies, dimes, gold-plated and silver-plated garden markers/plant stakes, herb markers, silver-plated jewelry, cheese markers, and ornaments are darkened with a permanent, water-resistant, fade-resistant black dye. Even this "permanent" dye will fade over time. However, those product are ***NOT*** food safe. (The hand-stamped cheese markers are "SAFE FOR FOOD CONTACT" as long as you do not insert the stamped end of the handle into your mouth.)
