Party Recap

The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday celebrated November 1st throughout Mexico and by people of Mexican ancestry living in other places, especially here in the United States. It’s a day of prayer and remembrance for friends and family members who have died. Join in this colorful tradition by hosting a Fiesta del Dia de los Muertos Party of your own. We’ve got plenty of festive details for you to incorporate and use.

Sugar skulls are a quintessential part of the day so start the party long before you open your front door by inviting guests with a sugar skull personalized invitation. Add some rhinestone embellishments to further the glam factor.

Make no bones about it! There’s no better way to remember ancestors that can no longer be here than with a colorful party full of food, fun and games in their honor.

Party Highlights

  • What People Ate

Tradition calls for the meal to include mounds of fruit, bowls of candy, peanuts, turkey mole, stacks of tortillas, pan de muerto (or pan dulce), bottles of soda and steaming hot chocolate. Take the opportunity to add more vibrant color to the table with bold hued serving pieces. Then don’t forget to include a handful of striped paper straws for easy soda sipping.

  • Party Favors

Set up a favor station so invitees can fill gift bags full of treats and trinkets to take home with them. Your selection could include cauldrons heaped with piñata candy and toys plus packages of Mexican hot chocolate for guests to enjoy in their personalized mugs.

  • Activities / Games

Design and print your own cup wrap for guests to color while munching on their food. Once finished, insert wraps into mugs and set out for guests to take home as favors. For some competitive fun, invite guests to play a few rounds of Sombrero Ball Toss. Set out a bowl full of balls and a group of sombreros tagged with different point values then let guests take turns vying for the highest points scored.
